The guys are fucking with me at work. I’m apart of the team.

A good sign that things are going well at work is when everybody whose worked with you a while and watched you is now comfortable enough to start fucking with you.

I don’t mean the I hate big dick energy fucking with you. I mean the…

“Your two minutes late for work your slipping bro.” Rick says before laughing in my face like he scored the best shot in the world.

I love good bad joke. Hell I love a good cringe Dad joke. The shit makes me laugh.

“What the deal my dude?”

I look at Rick. Ah shit here we go. “Morning Rick.”

“My dude, I smoked a lot of fucking weed this morning. I mean last night. I fucking can’t wait to get the fuck out here. Man, I got to shit. You look tired bro. You had a wild weekend of fucking?”

Holy shit.

Chapter 2 continues…

Arthor just stared at me and then his left eye twitched.

“What the fuck is so funny? What you’re asking me to do is stupid. I’m a med tech and a engineer I can’t work on the suit and test drive the thing myself.” I said.

Serena took hold of my chin and turned my face toward her. “Baby. I think my Daddy has someone else in mind to test drive the suit.

I frowned looking at Arthor again. “Who the hell can we get to trust not to go talking about this project for the right kind of cash.” I said.

The elevator came down to the basement level and the doors opened on cue it seemed.

I looked out to the med cave. It had been two years sense I had been in my father’s old lab. It looked like a twisted combination of prehistoric cave with modern computers, machines a work station and a man standing dressed in the suit with back to me possing for dramatic effect before he turned around to reveal himself.

Stepped out of the elevator shaking my head at him. “What the hell are you doing here, Norm?”

My college roommate Norm McCain turned around with a drama flair and grinned at me. “I know what your thinking!” He said in that tone. “The answer is yes. This is the coolest idea I have ever thought of and yes, you can join my team.”

I stared at him. “Your team!? I thought I was the one going to run things. I’m the export brought in and I own the patent rights to the suit. Your just the test dummy.”

Norm shook his head. “The test genius. I’m going to be the famous handsome dude that saved thousands of lives by heroically being the first genius to test your Daddy’s modern med deck suit. I even got a name for myself. Meda Deckman.” He said.

Holy shit. I set on the edge of the work desk “Fucking hell. Your serious.”

Norm turned to Serena and Arthor. “I told you he would like it. Alright guys let’s make Newark City history.”

Chapter 2

Arthor openned the entrance to the secret entrance elevator to the lab behind the bookcase shelf behind me.

I got up carefully. Serena was quiet and watchful of me. Arthor proceeded us inside the elevator Serena got in second I got inside along side her.

It was a tight fit. I put my arm around her. She took the opportunity to check my heart decker on my chest and adjusted it. Arthor watched us trying and failing not to smile.

“So why the paper contract? A bit old fashioned even for you.” I said trying to direct the conversation to something else and not the weird scene we posed.

“I wanted to see how effect your visual enhancers were. Did you read that whole document in one glance?” Arthor asked and then pushed the basement level floor.

The elevator closed and we began to make our descent.

I shook my head. “There not visual enhancers. There decker link scanners. I didn’t read it I scanned over a bit if it. I gathered the jest of it. I couldn’t do a deep dive.” I said.

Senera rolled her eyes at my statement but said nothing when I gave a side look.

“Why didn’t you go for the full operation instead of just getting custom visors?”

I shrugged. “I was making slow progress with upgrading my heart decker so and decided to do a side project.”

Arthor frowned shaking his head. Glancing at Serena disapprovingly. “You should be convincing him to get the heart transplant operation and do away with the decker.” He said.

Serena shook her head. “We’ve made the attempt two times. No doctor professional or otherwise will attempt a third operation. It is what it is?”

I cleared my throat. “So. What did my Dad have in mind with this suit?”

Arthor turned to me. “Rehabilitation for war vets with mental or muscle conditions. I had it motivated for men with your condition to bring a patient up to 50 to 80 percent improvement.”

I stared at him. “That’s impossible. Even if I had a successful heart replacement I was only given a fifty-fifty chance of improvement. No biological tech suit can have that great of a leap in med technology.”

Arthor smiled. “It’s more then a little possible. The research and papers you done on heart decks and med tech calibrations made it possible. We just need your technical mind to figure out how to perfect the calibrations and functionality.”

“You mean you need a test dummy!” I said.

Cyberpunk down the rabit hole…

My life right is go, go, go.

I got a moment to dream. I have to dig out brief rabbit holes to my own little wander land dream like time wrap cyberpunk city tales.

I dive into the rabbit hole when I’m on the bus and come out the other end on a bullet train to the east of Newark city hells yard. I got a meeting to attend. The customer is my client’s client and I am the go between posing as my client.

It’s a short story. My client is a coward and doesn’t do direct conflict or contact with people. He hires me to be his brave face to up keep his reputation. It’s all just a check to me no judgement.

The story pauses for another time as I get off one bus on another and go over my check list for today on bills and other shit I have to get done before I get off the bus and head on to work.

I was helped by Serena into a chair as I sat down in my former family estate library.

Arthor sat a bottle of strawberry cream pop in front me on a coster as I sat on my father’s chair. I waved away the pop.

“I want a beer. I ain’t kid Arthor.” I said.

Arthor ignored my comment entirely and popped open a bottle of his own and took a drink before talking.

“Your father and mother didn’t die by a by crazy just randomly shooting them on the street. It was a power play for a corporate take over.” He said bluntly.

I sat back casting my gaze toward Serena who was staring at me. “Old news to you?”

“I only care about you. If you want explanations ask my father.” She said calmly.

I scratched the back of my head. “Alright, Arthor. What’s this have to do with you asking me to sell my shares off. Are a few members of the board involved in it?”

“All of them. The board is starting another personally tailored company within the corporation for private wealthy investors in need of personal med techs for private treatment.”

I stared at him. “Private treatment for mobsters you mean.”

Arthor nodded. “Yes. You have the means to stop them with the lion shares of the company but their plans are in the works and politicians bought off. You can’t save the company.”

I shook my head. “I wondered why you decided to change the name of the hospital to Saint Ambers. It’s a wash out. All the work my father and grandfather did will be shit on. When do they plan on killing me?”

Arthor stared at me. “No one’s killing you. We’re starting over. No one is going to destory the Bruce name on my watch. Sign this.”

He put a paper contract down in front of me. I picked up the contract for sale of my shares scanning it to see it also included the sale of my family estate to me and two patents for field medic tech suits.

I wondered about it before picking up a pen from the desk and signing my name to it.

I sat back and looked up at Arthor. “What’s the plan here? What are we doing?”

Arthor looked at his daughter. “Show him.”

Serena handed me a red decker with a bright screen. I stared at the image of a detailed file of a dark blue armored suit. “Who made this?”

“Your father thought of it.” Arthor said with more then a hint of pride in his voice. “I put some money into a prototype but it will need time to be redesigned for what I have in mind. It’s in the lab.”

I looked up at him. “Show me.”

Great Papo goes to war with the Boomer

Great Papo is sitting up in bed at the family estate with a shot gun on his lap. Great grand son is called to talk to him.

“Bring that sum-a-bitch Boomer here. I’m a shot his fat ass off. This is war!”

I stared at him. “I didn’t take the vaccine damn it. Calm the fuck down. Your not shooting my grandfather.”

Great Papo stared at me. “That fucking asshole. That fucking asshole told me to my mother fucking face I needed to trust the government and convince you to take that shit. Fucking traitor to his clan.”

Holy shit.

“Look man. The vaccines aren’t that deadly-“

“That fucking Boomer is brain washing you with that trust the government bullshit. I talked to your Daddy. He told me what’s the goings on and showed me some stuff but that ain’t the reason I’m pissed off and you know it. That fucker asked me to trust the government! After what the government did to me in 1966 and 88. Fuck the government and fuck that traitorous Boomer son of mean.”

Oh shit. He was really pissed.

“If I get him on the phone and he apologies to you about it will you calm the fuck down?”

“Fuck his words.” Great Papo said gruffly. “I want a written contract that fucking Boomer won’t EVER mention government and trust to me while I’m alive or try to trick you into sucking the dick of the government on your fucking knees.” He said

I sighed. “Okay. I think I can get it done.”

“He has to sign it to in blood is my choice by in ink will do. Now how’s things going with your girl?”

Prologue

Alexander

I died for five seconds on a street alleyway with my parents. It had happened fast. A stranger asking for a pair of credits and then turning and firing an old school revolver at us.

I woke up only because of Arthur Pin. Our family butler/med tech had heard the shots as he raced down the alley  with his medical decker and side arm. He had saved me though it had taken great effort to get my heart going with his medical decker.

The time had cost him though and I had to watch while I could do nothing as he tried and failed to save my parents. The rage and enjustice of it all. If I had known what I know now hell any medical training at the time I may could have helped them. The memory still burns me to this day.

I promised that day on I wouldn’t feel that helpless again.

Fifteen years later……

Chapter 1

I stood in the board room as the board and the current C.E.O. Arthor  all told me that I had to hand over my shares of my family corporation to them. Today, I hadn’t thought to be given a C.E.O position of my family hospital I was still to young 2nd year medical tech.

I stared at Arthur. “Why do you need my shares? I wasn’t planning on selling them to Killgrave or anyone else. What’s this about?”

Arthor stared at me pointedly. “Mr. Bruce. We’ve founded your education and schooling to this point and the board has made the decision to stop at this point. We’re giving you twice the purchase price of the shares. You won’t be needing them anyway.”

“Why is that?” I asked.

Author shrugged. “Your a top grade medic. You’ll go far in the field once you level up and advanced to doing tech surgeries in two years. But, honestly you don’t have the capability to proceed me as the C.E.O. of the company.”

Hmm. Interesting. I hadn’t even thought at all of being the C.E.O of the company. “Who will be the next C.E.O coming up in June?”

Arthor seemed to relax in his chair and smiled a little. “Serena.” He said with more then a little fatherly pride in his voice.

Again more interesting…Serena had failed to tell me any of this. Before our engagement two weeks ago or now.

I felt first warning. It was a burst of pain in my chest. I reflectively reached into my shirt to adjust my heart deck. Arthor frowned starting to raise but I held up my hand. “Let’s get to it then. Give me a deta pad and light pin.” I said in rush now to get out of this room filled with strangers I owed money to. I could no longer trust them. It had been a fucking loan. Hell could I even trust Serena now. I barely kept back a grimance of pain.

Arthor frowned at statement. “If your feeling under pressure the signing will not be legal right now. We’ll send you the contract later when you’ve calmed down.”

I was being dismissed and knowing Arthor and that tone nothing I said would having any baring on changing his mind. It never did when I was under his guardianship. I needed to get back to my office though to check my decker though. I really didn’t need this shit. I just gotten a replacement six months ago. I had come here to ask for time off to do community work in the lower districts of Newark, now by the looks of things I would likable be asked to leave the company if I did that. I was still only a two year med deck and I didn’t have any pull with the board at all.

I nodded stiffly. “Sure. Send me the contract later and I’ll review it and get back to you signed.” I said quickly and turned carefully and left the room.

Damn it.

I kept it together barely. I was just hoping to get to my office and relax alone. I got out of the elevator to find Serena waiting for me. She was dressed in black suit that hugged her body and showed off her hips. She studied me with sharp dark eyes the same as her short tight tomboy hair style as I angled around her and heading for my office.

“Ah kinda busy right now Serena. We’ll have to do lunch later.” I said trying to tell her to go away politely because employees and patients watched us.

Serena ignored my comments. “We have to talk about some issues regarding work.” She said loud enough for others to hear.

Fucking hell. I couldn’t get rid of her now. “Yeah. Okay.” I said gritted my teeth and entering my office.

Serena closed the door locking it and then closed the blinds as I headed to my desk unbuttoning my shirt. Serena came over started to help me. I tried to push her hands away but she gripped my shirt and stared at me.

“Calm down. I didn’t know they would tell you about the shares today. I would have been there with you.”

I stared at her. “I’m fine.” I said in quiet voice though the chest pains were coming fast. “I just need a few minutes alone.”

Serena stared at me. “I’m not going anywhere. Ever. Your angry at me for not telling you about them offering me the position.”

“I’m wondering why you didn’t tell me. It’s..” I paused closing my eyes. “I just need to be alone.”

“I said no. I was going to tell you. I just couldn’t figure out a way to do it without this shit happening. Damn it. I told Daddy to wait for me to be in the room. Just sit back and practice your breathing. I’ll check your heart decker.” She said opening my shirt and checking the decker.

“I need a fucking drink.” I said uneasy now.

“No. You need to relax.” Senera said.

My computer screen came awake. I saw Arthor’s face for video call. “Reject call.” I commanded. “Send message. I’m fine. Get me the contract and I’ll sign it. Send message.” I said.

I heard the jingle for my message being sent but again a video call image of Arthor came up.

“Take call.” Serena said.

Arthor’s image came up. He studied me. “Master Bruce. You really don’t so hot old boy. You look like shit. I’m sorry to say I’m the cause of it but it had to be done.”

“You could have sent me an email instead of having to come to board room for that bullshit and stop calling me Master your my boss.”

Arthor leveled his gaze on mean. “It had to be done. The board doesn’t want you in charge.”

“Go away Arthor. Your only pissing me off more.” I said.

Arthor flinched at my tone. “I need you to come home. We have to discuss somethings.”

“I don’t have a home. It’s your house.” I said but Serena caught my chin.

“Stop it. I need you to just breath.” She said and glared at her father’s image. “We’ll be home tonight. End call.”

A walk….

I went out today on a mission. To get a fucking transparent backpack for work. It was a fail…..

But, I enjoyed a nice walk to remember.

The sun blazed a fall mid heat rays. I walked on for a mile my thoughts turning to the task at hand and then to my present state.

My thoughts are random and spaced out between foot steps. This my second and last day of my break from my day job and I find myself taking in the present more.

I’m at ease to journey on. I’m at ease with the unknown of tomorrow and letting my feet just wonder a bit and be concerned or worried. I am present for today and not after my walk I’m sitting on a bench under a tree and feeling a breeze. I’m glad though I didn’t find my item of interest I did find my mind at peace and at ease in the present.

I grew up taught and educated that I was African American and now I’m starting to question even that.

Real talk. I don’t even want to question this because it seems so pointless but it has been a in grained fact in my mind that I had no evidence to prove it but for movies and the word of American slave owner accounts I’ve seen.

I’m not black. Literally I’m not really dark skinned or share that much physical traits of Africans. I’m copper skinned with similar traits of my maternal grandmother’s father. Who was a native here or really an Aboriginal.

As does my brother, Red and my mother.

I’m a mixed bag of tribes from in one body. The same as any other person born in America.

The DNA tracing. What about that? Again to my point. I’m mixed and every time I’ve seen somebody get their DNA traced to a point of orgin it always included extra percentage points added in. It’s not a gps system. It’s more like a system that analyzes deta matching them with other deta points through a system made by people that already made the conclusion about where your distant relatives might have come from.

Your dna is you. I know. But that doesn’t mean I suddenly change into an asian because I have 20% asian points in my DNA chain.

Now I have to say these are my opinions because dumbasses in passing might have a grip with me questioning the American tradition of slave owners telling the truth about slavery.

Anyway, add that to the fact people find it more then likely in other countries because the differences between copper skinned folk and Africans is wide from traditions, mindsets, intelligence and etc.

I’m still thinking on it. But there’s one thing about history I know is true….

History is written by bullshiters and beta bitch losers. You have to take it with a grain of truth and caution.

Please don’t take my word for it. Question even my opinion about it. Though honestly it’s in part the reason I call myself an American Highlander.

Cyberpunk dreams: Rite Of Passage part 1

Prologue: Waking up!

Christopher

I woke up in the dirt. I listened before I opened my eyes. No one was around. It seemed like I was alone and I felt the heat of the sun and cool morning breeze on my skin.

I didn’t have any shoes or a shirt on. All I had was my pants and…my knife strapped to my leg. I opened my eyes.

Route 66 marker seemed to glow in the after glow of night and dawn.

I came to my feet and turned north in the direction of the Newark. The city glittered like a kingdom of the modern world.

I turned away south and caught sight the eighteen wheeler tire tracks along with the jeep tracks of the tribe’s leadership vehicles. I frowned as I followed the tracks off the road and back around and headed to the city.

The city? Why were they headed back to the city the job was done. Hmm. I thought about last night when the tribe held my 16th birthday party to mark the season of my rite.

I wondered. The only reason they would be headed back is if they left something behind or they had another job.

My stomach growlled. Damn. I would need to hunt up breakfast before I headed for the city. I had a two hour walk on my hands.

I heard movment to my right. I glanced out the side of my eyes to see a house dog. The hell. No. He was a half breed mixed with a wolf.

I moved my left hand down to my bow wee knife. Looks I wouldn’t have to look for breakfast and a skin to wear.

I would have to move fast and get a fire going to cook it right.
