XO “The Glassgo Job” episode 4

“What’s your name by the way?” I asked.

She stared at me with a sly grin. “So now you want to be honest about the reason you came over here.”

I shrugged. “I came over for a conversation so it would be nice to call you by a name you prefer to be called by other then the name I have in my head when I first saw you.”

“Which is what? Miss Piece Sweet of Ass?” She asked with genuine humor. She was laughing at herself. Interesting.

I smiled. “No. Miss Nice Legs was the name. Remind me to buy your father a drink some time for his excellent parenting.”

“My name is Delilah Bowings. And if you want to thank someone then my uncle Sam would be the one. My father was busy trying to become a king during my childhood.” She said with no hint of self pitty in her voice.

I nodded staring at her. “Your a Nomad Princess.”

Delilah merely smiled. “Not presently. I’m a executive. Are you hunting for a mate?”

I smiled shaking my head. “Oh no. Just a little conversation.” I said and looked around to see Glassgo was talking with a executive with a purple pin attached to his suit jacket. Hmm. I didn’t recognize the face but the offical executive class pin noted he was a industry high class professional ruler.

“That’s Hector Finley. He’s recently become attached to Roberto. He’s making a bid to become a King of the purple district. He’s looking to get funding and support from Roberto.” Delilah said.

I nodded. “Who is Roberto to you? Your father or…oh. He’s your father then.” I said noticing the change in her cool expression. “Does Finley know Glassgo is a the current king around here?”

Delilah chuckled softly. “You are a strange one. I thought you were just party crasher executive class looking for a fun night out. Purple district like many parts of the city and dream realm has many kings but we have no definitive leader. However, Roberto doesn’t seem to hold the signature pendent of the district so-“

“-Do you really believe that?”

Delilah smiled and shrugged. “If Roberto had succeeded in becoming a King of the purple district why would he attempt these games. He failed. Are you here to gain a job from him or do you garner something more. You’ll have to get in line Finley is about to position himself to gain the position.”

She really was young. Too damn young. However, that’s just what I needed to use to distract Glassgo. I was going have to let down my mask and do a heavy amount of lying.

“Power is power. A pretty Pin on your jacket isn’t a sign of it. It is a party favor that fools use to impress other idiots of same mind.. That idiot talking with Glassgo is about to be snuffed out. Men like your father won’t abide his kind of cowardice. You should know that already growing up in the circles you come out of.”

Delilah flinched back and stared at me. “Did my pack send you? Why are you-“

“If you have a thing for the Finley guy then you better move. Glassgo is herding him to one of the back rooms.” I said pointing a thumb toward the scene in play.

Delilah hurried away shoving me aside and started toward Glassgo. Glassgo had a weird smile on his face as his daughter started yelling at him in some weird southern accents while Finley was trying to calm her down and apologizing for her.

I made my way toward the secret door that was the back way into the room while the whole room.was distracted.

  1. I miss your comments, Dogg. Where you been?

I like that your cyberpunk has kings. Why, I wonder, though, does the dream realm have multiple kings when power shares itself only uneasily? You’d figure there’d be a falling-out and then a war.

    • I’ve been working on finishing up my latest book and trying to figure out a math equation to become a millionaire before I’m sixty.

To become a king is a class status for what culture or industry you are in the dream world hierarchy chains. There are rival battles to get to the top but ultimately it depends on how dominant you become as a Corporate executive or as a Nomad warrior.

You can’t buy your way to the top. You have to prove it. You have to earn it. You have to conquar and dominant your way up the ladder of power from the bottom to the top.

A nomad king in the outlands or red District is not the same industry or game as a high level executive in the purple district. They are playing different games in different hierarchies. It is rare for a king to pass from one game in the dominance game to the other because you have to master the rules for each game.
