The length of a story I’m discovering depends on the story

Greetings,

Lovers of the written word, writers, readers and bibliophiles.

I’ve started working on a story for a new series that is a spinoff of my life of prince series. Like with every book or short story I’ve written over the years I’m learning as I’m writing.

The length of a story. I struggled a lot with page count, word count and extending a story to long drawn out narrative. I like to write shorter stories. But, also like to test limits occasionally. My first novel was a work of stress and toil the preceding four were not any better.

But, my current book is different. The story almost writes itself. I don’t care about the length as a whole but the story is long and it’s end I can’t see but for glimpses in the conversations the main characters have with one another.

I love it. It’s a far way off from the fictional universe it comes from but it is a fun journey of discovery.

The book is still in it’s drafting stage but I can see that length will probably grow once I see what direction the story will naturally follow. I’m having fun just getting to know the characters in a new light and scope.

Notebooks and NorthMinster Mysteries

Greetings,

Writers, readers and lovers of the written word.

I began my first note booking of 2020 yesterday. It was a mad session of brainstorming for ideas and directions for one story. A story I had only been thinking about for a few weeks. A mixture of dirt dozen, Rogue one and a grand cyber punk adventure.

I’m not sure if the idea will go anywhere but I put it to pen and paper so I won’t have to hold the idea in my head and move on to other ideas I’m interested in.

Strange, even in this time of blogging and pc tablets and android devices I find myself still craving the texture and feel of a pen and paper to write down my ideas.

I’ve been reading the first book in a series I think will be a favorite collection of mean. The NorthMinster Mysteries.

The writing. The writing just flows from page to page. I like the main characters so far and the step by step draw of the first mystery. The setting is 1800s England and the main characters are a newbie doctor and a veteran cop. Both are likeable and instant grab you. I like strong characters in a story.

Happy New and my reading and writing goals

Greetings

Writers and lovers of the written word. Happy New Year.

Twelve months of potential goals to achieve and things to do. I’ve goals and ambitions. First to the reading.

Throne of Bones by Vox Day. The book is one of a few books I’m set to read. I’ve been looking at the book for many months of last year. Vox Day is a favorite author of mean. I love his writing style and characters in his fictional tales. I finally made the leap and bought the audio book and ebook few days ago.
