The Spider Web
R1TA 2.0
I closed my eyes in the real world and opened them in the cyber spider web. I stared around me at the endless stary web streams around me. A line of light appeared in front of me and as I focused on the line I started moving. It was stranger still as I felt like I was racing down lines of the web bustling along in a direct form of travel until I found myself at a point at my destination in front of a building made of light and webs of light and codes of information.
I felt alone for a second as I stood outside a store in the spider Web mirror verse of the Newark City State.
I felt a hand touch the small of my back as the stranger reached for the door and held it open for me.
“Go on inside, honey. Pick what you want and I’ll ring up the information you want to learn.”
I knew the voice from a video audio recording from my sleep programing. I said nothing but walked inside as he followed behind me walking past me to the front. I caught his digital image ID. Fixer Class. I wanted to ask why he was here. I didn’t want to see him. Dr. Moore didn’t like or trust him. Why was he here?
I busied myself by looking around the shop for the security training programs I needed. I found two that had the price I could afford with the digital credits R1T9A had in her account.
I came to the front desk. A golden shield glowed around his body.. The Fixer smiled at me and I stared then stopped looking down. “I’ll take these Sir.” I said and held out my hand for him to scan for my number.
The Fixer held up a hand. “Do you want to get anything else?!”
I grimanced. “No. This will do fine. It’s what I can afford to buy with the money my sister gave me. What?!” I asked seeing a strange light in his eyes.
“Get what you need and I’ll ring you up with the credits your big sister gave you.” He said. I could hear it in his voice. He was laughing at me for some reason but his eyes were…kind.
“Yes Sir.” I said and hurried back to the shelves to find extra programs that might be useful for my first assignment for Battlestar corporation.
“Rita. I heard you got big approval from Cyberpunk. Your going to be a rising star in Battlestar baby girl.”
I could feel my face heating at his high praise. It was all so strange. Nothing. Nothing was like the protocol for a R1TA model going on her first assignment. My eyes landed on two programs with gold labels on them. Ace 1 communications and deploymentic programs. I picked them up wondering why I was attracted to them. I thought about putting them back but then stopped myself and walked to the front.
The Fixer spared only a glance at the programs as he started to ring up my purchases and then the total came up to 50k ebs. He smiled at me. “I’ll take whatever have.” He said.
I held out my hand and he scanned the account number on my hand. Once the purchase was done the programs disappeared from the counter and then I felt a sudden flood of information being streamed into my head. I woke up second later still standing in front of The Fixer was putting something around my shoulders. “What are you doing?”
The Fixer shook his head. “Don’t worry it. Just a little precaution. Alright baby girl. Your ready to go. Log off!”
