Tales from the court of Owls: The Raven Episode 2 Nick’s vision

I was nervous as I sat with my back to my brother’s at the restaurant table. I wished it could have been more private but I had out voted. Things were moving fast. I had gotten the watch reports from the back-sight on the sudden changes in James Potter’s path and the alliances he had forged quickly.

I had to move quickly.

Angus and his son appeared together. I smiled at them but I froze as I saw the look James gave me a second he saw me and then he quickly tried to hide it.

James hated me. No. The heir of Merlin looked at me as a monster. It hit me. I had failed. I knew what I was capable of now. I knew what my limits would be.

I would push forward. I would overcome. I shook Angus hand and I turned to James. He nodded to me. I took in his measure and sensed the power hidden behind his youthful face. His eyes. Yes. Angus was right. His eyes told the story of a young who knew what pain and death were. He had been closely associated with them as I had myself.

He sat and we made minor chit chat that was only a formality. I saw him work magic easily using it without speaking. He pushed it out from his body. The end of the conversation came quickly when he told me to myself that he had no intention of being my bitch.

I laughed it off noticing how quiet Angus was during all this. I finally allowed him to take his leave and he disappeared leaving behind a grey mist on the chair.

I turned to Angus. “He believes me to be an enemy of his. I promise to surprise him and become his friend.” I said.

Angus stared at me. “What do you want to know?”

“Did he tell you?” I asked.

Angus shook his head. “His wife told me what happened from her end. Yeah. He brought his wife back with her memories too. They did some wild things eighteen months from now.” He said.

“Two years! Two years.” I said twice.

Angus nodded. “Yep. Someone attacked the sky realm my boy made and killed my family.” He said.

I nodded. “Me. Your saying I ordered the death of your family in this sky realm that James made. What is a sky realm?” I said.

“James used a bit of my magic along with several other forms to craft another place like earth above my ranch where they made inventions that advanced magic by the months.” He said with more then a little pride in his voice about his son.

I couldn’t conceive of any reason I would try to stop that. “He’ll have his opportunity to bring back this sky realm and do more now.” I said.

Angus shook his head. “No. James isn’t interested in returning to that. My daughter in-law says she is going to try to attempt to get him back on to his true passion but she is afraid it is gone after what happened.” He said.

I shook my head. “That is nonsense. I have to know what happened Angus. I have to bring him into our circle. He’s our future. If he gets turned to the dark Lord’s side.”

“Leave him be.” Angus said. “He’ll come along at his own pace and time. He’s earned some peace.”

“He went to visit a female named River Song. Do you know why?” I asked.

Angus sighed. He stared at me. “What are you doing, Nick?” He said.

I stared at him. “He has a black rage in him. Such anger and power in a young man like himself can damage my peoples future. He already has one tribe of Magi under his protection. This is only the beginning. There is still hope to guide him back around to right side.” I said carefully.

Angus nodded leaning forward toward me. “Your the cause of his pain and loss, Nick. Your the reason he is the way he is. It’s what you become. Hell the only reason he came here was because of me. He is opposed too everything you are and will be. He still some how respects me though I can’t know why when I failed him. I didn’t have the strength to protect his dreams from being burned away by you and our friends.” He said.

I stared at him and and then laughed. I couldn’t help it. My hand was steady as I ran it through my hair once then twice. I sighed. “I hear you. But, I have done nothing to him or you. I have to know everything that happened. He was sent back. There has to be a way-” He said.

“I want you to leave my son alone, Nick.” Angus said. “Leave him out of this fucking war you have with the shit head. I’ll give you the information you need. Will you do me this favor?” He said.

I stared at him. “I can’t promise you none interference. We have to train him. We have to give him all our knowledge and experience so that he can do push our people forward to the next level. It is my duty to pure my knowledge into him. Angus. Your son will rise above all of us because what he lead our children into a new era.” I said.

Angus stared at me. “I know you believe what your saying. I know your a good man but your mortal. Let him be. His mother and I will help him heal but you and the fellas can’t be apart of it. Your the reason he became this way.” He said.

I stared at him. “Alright. I won’t go near him. None of us will go near him. However. He’s a powerhouse Angus. Not like you were on his age. His destiny means more for my children’ future. Our world will see him for it he is. They will come after him to make him choose a side. I will insist he become apart of the court. That insistence will not be up for refusal.” I said.

Angus sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. He looked at me. “Why won’t you let this shit go?” He asked in frustration.

“Angus. I have to change the course of events before I betray you brother. There is one event that has not happened to him. I’m asking you as a brother one last time. Allow me to redeem myself in your eyes and change my course. Owls do not betray each other. It is our oath.” I said.

Axe came to stand between us. “We all feel this way Angus. James is to powerful. Either he will swayed to the dark Lord or be on our side. Either way I know my sons will follow him when he comes into his full power decades from now. I want him on our side. I’m not going to up for fighting against him and my sons.” He said.

Angus nodded his head. “Fine. The day they come to force that choice I’ll bring him to the court to be inducted into our ranks. Just remember what I told you before. You know where I stand.” He said and disappeared.

I leaned back in my chair. My head hurt. I looked at Axe. He stared at me. “That kid scary but he’s also the kind of man we need in the court. Your riding a line though. He’s the last Deathly hollow and the heir to Merlin.” He said.

I nodded my head. “I know but we need to know what happened in his time-line. This is our only chance.” I said.

Blue Technomancer CHAPTER 33

Beau remained hidden behind his personal shield. He watched inside a dinner across the street as Rider was working inside a busting tables. Rider was working hard with a smile on his face. Beau watched Rider chatting with young and old Supers that were eating inside or working in the dinner.

Beau felt someone behind him suddenly. He didn’t react right away because he caught the scent of the female. He waited until no one was looking in their direction and then he turned toward Jessica as he put down his shield. Beau appeared before them dressed in a black shirt jeans and brown leather jacket with the Homeworld logo pin on the front of the jacket.. She jumped back but Ryu caught her around the waist and held close while he glared at Beau.

“What’s going on baby girl? How did you track my location?” Beau asked.

Jessica was dressed in a dark blue tight jumpsuit and homeworld jacket. She stared at him in surprise. Ryu towered over her standing close beside her. He was glaring at Beau. She smiled at him suddenly and tapped a pink finger nail to the homeworlder badge and communicator attached to Beau’s jacket.

“You forgot the second function of your communicator? What are you doing here?” She said. Her eyes gave off a warm glow of energy.

Beau grinned and shrugged his shoulders. “Just checking up on a old friend of mean is all.” He said with a wink and then he started walking away.

Jessica and Ryu quickly fell into step with Beau and followed him. Ryu glared at him. “The van is just around the corner. The Boss was worried about you. Why you come down to this shit hole to see that old man.” Ryu said.

Beau sighed shaking his head. “You talk like you know what the fuck is going on. You should stick to being the muscle of Homeworld like a good soldier.” He said.

Ryu grimanced. “I know enough about Rider and you, old man. He spent only twelve months doing a bid so he could walk away with a few scars and in a better start and a whole body then you had. You spent five years slaving for the government and being experimented on to keep him from being killed by the normals or worse. You ended up with a broken Broken body, a crippled alcoholic forgotten legend. He ended up looking like a fucking pretty boy hero. You should fucking hate that asshole for having it so easy.” He said.

Beau laughed as a memory hit him like a brick to the face. It was the first time he was experimented on. It had been the first painful and humilating time but every period afterward had been a walk in the park compared to the first time. The thought of dying got easier after that for him once he realized it was only going to be him out of all his people and Vlad’s children.

Ryu flenched back but then he glared at Beau. “Your a fucking crazy old asshole bro. Your fucking nuts. I don’t understand you.” He said.

Beau sighed but said nothing as he shook his head.

“Ryu! That’s enough.” Jessica said. She turned to Beau. “He doesn’t mean to so rude. I think he’s coming to understand you more clearly.” She said.

Beau chuckled shaking his head at Ryu. Beau feeling the ach in his legs start to begin as he walked to a black utility Homeworld van parked on a corner. “You need to stop fishing in other people’s heads for shit that isn’t your business. I did what I did and I saved as many of my people as I could. I consider that a win.” He said.

“The war isn’t over old man. We got eyes on us from the bitch in the white house.” Ryu said.

“Shit. What the fuck does that fucking bitch want now?! Fucking sum ah bitch.” Beau said and started limping quickly to the van. The back door slid open and masked female dressed in all leather. The lower half of her face was covered by a black mask. Her dark eyes were playful as she greeted him.

“Hey baby.” Angel said in a warm intimate voice. She offered her hand to him.

Beau smiled. “Hey beautiful. Wonderful to see your wonderful shapely body again.” He said taking her hand.

Angel quickly grabbed his arm yanking him inside the van and held him close. “Next time tell us when your going out for a bit. You had me worried.” She said in a shaky husky voice.

Jessica followed inside and Ryu slid the door closed as he got inside the front passenger side door. The van took off as Beau started sweating as Angel gave him a black water bottle offering it to him and helping him to drink down the contents.

Beau felt mildly refreshed taking in the drink before he waved the bottle and it’s contents away from his mouth. He looked to Ryu whom was glancing back at his face. “When did the normals start turning their eyes on homeworld? Is it because of what happened with Martin’s son or Rider getting out?” He asked.

Ryu stared at him. “They want you back old man. They sent the boss a offer to be nice but that’s only the beginning.” He said knowingly.

“Shit!” Beau said with a grimance.

“Beau. Don’t worry. My dad isn’t going to turn on you. He knows what will happen if he allowed them to take you again.” Jessica said.

Beau shook his head. “He didn’t allow it the first time someone had to be taken. They wanted you and your siblings. I didn’t have choice.” He said bluntly.

Jessica stared at him with tears in her eyes. “I’m sorry you suffered because of us.” She said.

Beau closed his eyes blocking out her face. He tried to steady his mind and breathing not to think about the past again.

“Beau. Baby. We need you to relax.” Angel said wiping down his sweaty face.

Beau shook his head. “Fucking bullshit distraction. I’ve been out of the game to long now and I’m used up and I’m old. I don’t believe that bullshit for a second. Ah shit.” He said in grunt of pain at the end as his metal legs gave way and he sat on the seat leg less again. “Damn legs gave out again.” He said in a funny voice as he caught them looking at him differently. Not like good old joking Techno. But, like the Blue Technomancer of the past. He didn’t like it.

Ryu stared at Beau. He shook his head at Beau. “I don’t believe your act anymore old man and neither do the normals in the white house.. They going to attempt to start bribing you back in to the military before they go into direct threats against either you or the people around you.” He said.

Ryu shook his head. “No. No. We don’t have time for this shit. Rider is free. Homeworld is on the rise and my people are safe. I can’t let them win. I didn’t survive through that shit for it to end up like this. Fuck em. I’ll figure out something.” He said quietly. His mind began to work fast as he went over possible plans and strategies.

Ryu shook his head staring at Beau. He saw into Beau’s mind like fish bowl. “No. You’re going back to Homeworld and the Boss is going to do the figuring out part. You signed on for that. Your not going back to them. So just stop thinking what your thinking and sit tight and pretend to be a weak old man all you like and sell that shit to some other sucker it only worked on me once.” He said with a snide smile and chuckle.

Beau flipped him off. “Fuck you too.” He said.

Blue Technomancer CHAPTER 32

Beau sat in wheel chair in his apartment dorm room facing a wide screen 22 inch wall plat screen television. There was a live news footage of Rider getting out of prison. Rider walked with careful walk. His eyes were staring straight ahead as he carried his box of personal items and his duffle bag. Rider silver blue metal necklace was around his neck. He was dressed in casual jeans and white dress shirt and beat up sneakers. He doubted it was the outfit that he had went in with. It was outfit that had been assigned to him to wear for the photo shoot.

Beau took a sip from his tall glass of ice sweet tea. He grimaced wishing it was wine but then he shook his head knowing that wouldn’t a good idea. He was twenty-four months sober and trying to keep it that way for Jessica and Angel’s sake’s.

Beau watched as a camera focused on Rider. He walked up to news platform set up outside of the prison. President Smith and other politicians stood and waved him toward them to speak at the podium. Rider looked pale a lot leaner. His eyes though is what made Beau’s head began to hurt. Rider was still riding the line between control and madness. Nightmares swam behind his dark eyes.

Rider still obeyed the summons from the President. He shook hands with her. He nodded his head to whatever bullshit she said to him. He then took his position facing the reporters and looked down at the speech prepared for him to read.

Beau set his glass down on the floor. There was a beep on his communicator. Beau took a breath. “Mute Television.” He said. The plate screen and the words muted in red letters was on the screen.

Beau tapped his communicator pin attached to his jacket. “Techno here.” He said.

“Beau. Are you watching the press conference with Rider?” Martin asked.

Beau was quiet watching Rider read off his speech. He couldn’t hear the words and was thankful for it. “Yeah. I’m watching it now. He just needs to get through it before they’ll let him go.” Beau said in calm even toned voice.

“Brother. He knew what he was getting into when he took that deal. At least now he knows who these bastards really are. I know he was your friend but we did try to warn him they would turn on him.” Martin said.

Beau chuckled. “He’s not as smart as you are brother. He never saw this coming. He’s just a victim of his own ideals. The only thing I want now is for them to leave him alone. He belongs to us now. He survived though I know they had to put him through the shit. He survived.” He said.

Martin was quiet. “I’m sorry brother we couldn’t get him out.” He said.

Beau sighed and then stared at the screen as Rider lifted his hand and pointed at someone. He froze. “Volume on!” He said.

The volume on the plate screen was turned on.

Rider was speaking to a young pretty Super. The young mutant had silver blond hair, she was dressed a white suit jacket and skirt who was standing up. The crowd of reporters around her were silent. Pictures flashed but Rider held her gaze. “My time is done. Save our people. You’ve got a long fight on your hands of a different kind now. It’s a fight you will need different types of weapons to fight. Your speech and your Super noble mind. The future of our kind and generations to come depend on your wisdom and your determination. This time it’s not some dead alien. This time it’s your own government. Your own people. Your own normal country men. You fight for your children and their future. Fight to make sure they don’t fall. You want a hero to look up to look in the mirror sister. You’re a mother and sister of our kind. You’re ready to fight encourage our kind to push on when many would see us dead and gone. That’s my hero.” Rider said and turned started walking away as pictures flashed.

Beau’s mind flashed back to that moment when he was speared in the chest waiting to die finally. Wishing for it but he wanted to live. He felt it.

“Beau?! Beau are you seeing this? What the hell is happening?! Is he doing what I think he’s doing?!” Martin said in growing alarm.

Beau nodded his head. “He’s using his powers on her but his powers are expanding out through the damn camera and crowd. He’s gotten stronger. What the fuck is this!?” He said.

Beau’s phone went off in his pocket. He got it out and answered it. “What the fuck have you’ve done? He was supposed to lose his powers when he was collared.” Beau said.

E’s laughter sent a chill down Beau’s spine. “I told you brother. He would survive. The threat of his illness and his loyalty to the normals has been stomped out. He’s fully on the side of his people. Do you want to meet him?” She said.

Beau hung up on her without answering her. This wasn’t what he wanted. This complicated things and he already could see trouble for Rider once they’re enemies realized what Rider’s real powers were. This wasn’t at all what he wanted.

James Potter and The Court of Owls Chapter 9

Mara cried and babbled on and on in a strange language as James worked to calm her down and kept speaking back to her in the same language until she finally got a hold of herself and nodded to him in understanding. He kissed her forehead before placing the cloak into her arms.
James looked up at Angus to see him holding out his arm. Angus gave him a wink and smile. James returned the smile before he gave Mara one last look. “I’ll send you an Owl every week. But, I’m going to working a lot. Tell your father I will see him soon to tell him my plans.” James said before taking a firm hold on his father’s arm with both hands.

The world fell away for James but he kept his focus on Angus’ even as he felt his eyes being pulled forward and being pushed inside his body and then they were in another place. James blinked twice as vision cleared and looked around to see they were inside a restroom. Stalls were all were to his right and wash basins to his left with tall mirrors attacked to the walls.

James straightened up as Angus helped him to his feet. “You doing better son?” Angus asked him and helped James to steady himself while standing.
James nodded though his head was beginning to pound. He would have to get use to it. If he was going to be any help to his father in the hunt for the item the Count wanted. He frowned in thought. “Dad. What’s the item the Count wanted returned back to him. Was it in the file he gave us?”

Angus nodded stiffly and a grim expression formed on his lips. “Yes. It was. Though I don’t think he put it in the report he passed on to the Aurors about what the thieves stole from him yesterday. It was supposed to have been destroyed years ago. How the hell did he get it.”
James frowned at him. “Is it something illegal position or magical artifact he isn’t suppose to have?”

Angus shook his head putting a finger to his lips. He waved James to follow him to the back doors. He opened the door going out first and then holding the door open for James to go ahead.

They walked out into short hallway that led into an open area filled with paints and paints on the wall strange sculptures on top a podiums. There were only a few landscapes and but the majority of paints were of men and ladies in different periods of time.

Angus led the way looking for something among the painting. James was about to ask again what they were looking for when he stopped and saw a painting of himself. He blinked twice and then realize it was him.

Angus nodded to the painting. “That’s my grandfather when he was around your age after the final battle with Riddle at Hogwarts.”
James frowned. “Did he commission the painting? Shouldn’t this belong to our family.”

Angus shook his head. “Grandpa Harry didn’t commission it. Some jackass took a photo him from he and became an Auror. He was sitting down with Uncle Ron and Aunty Hermiona at Diagaon Alley for a drink.” He said and scowl of discuss was on his lips as he turned away from the painting.

James wondered about his father’s reaction but kept himself from asking Angus the question. Angus was frustrated now and came to a stop when they neared the exit of the museum. “It’s not here. We have this might take us a bit of time.”

“Dad what is this place? A public magical museum? What are we looking for?” James asked.

Angus shook his head. “To many questions. We have to keep moving. Grab a hold.” He said holding out his arm.

James took a breath and grabbed a hold of his father’s arm. He blinked and they were outside on dirt road in the country somewhere. He looked around in confusion. He looked at his father took out a sandwich from his pack and took two bites as he started walking in a direction down the road. James was quick to follow. There was a strange quiet that followed that made James uneasy.

“Dad. What’s wrong?”

Angus reached into his pack and removed a page they had gotten from Harmiona and handed to James. “Take a look that. Tell me what you think?”

James took the page looked over it.

The Counts gallery items thirty-six items:
Amber Rod of Sages 1
Honey Gold Love potions 10
Greek scepter 1
Carpet of flight 1
Gloves of ages 2
Mystic Stone of unknown properties 1
Paintings from the first wizard war era. 20

James frowned at the list and then he shook his head handing it back to Angus. “I don’t get it.”

“James do you remember the story about your grandpa Harry’s first year at Hogwarts?”

James stopped and starred at his father who continued walking and James started to quickly catch up. “Yes. It was part of magical history and mother told me more details to make sure I memorized the event. Why? Tom Riddle is dead. Right?”

Angus nodded finishing his sandwich and taking out two more from his pack and handing one to James to eat. “Damn straight. But, some of his followers are still alive and he did accumulate a few worshipers along the way. But more importantly do you remember the bit of trouble with the stone?”

“Of Course. I don’t see-” James paused and went silent. “Dumbledore told Grandpa Harry the stone was destroyed. Dad. Your not thinking that-”

Angus shrugged. “I don’t know anything for sure but the item we’re looking for is an uncommon ancient mystic stone.”
James shook his head. “Dumbledore couldn’t have lied about it. He couldn’t have Grandpa Harry nearly died trying to keep Riddle from getting it.”

Angus shook his head. “Who knows. I personally don’t care either way. In any regard our job is just to keep an eye out for it and get it back to our client. Once that’s done. Hopefully we never see this idiot again. One thing you need to keep in mind son as we’re on this job.”

“What’s that?” James asked biting into his sandwich.

Angus looked at him. “The people that stole that damned rock will believe it’s the philosopher’s stone. In that regard they’ll be doing a lot to kill anybody coming to take it away. So less questions from here on end and always have your wand out and ready from now on. One more thing I got to ask you. Did your girl teach you to speak snake tongue or did you learn it to get in her good graces?” He said with a grin.
James grinned back. “I found out she could speak and asked her to teach me so I could befriend her and get her to help me with my grades.”

Angus snorted in laughter. “When did she figure out that was all an excuse to get with her?”
James’ face flush. “It wasn’t an excuse. I wanted to become her friend and I needed help with my grades all through school.”

Angus shook her head. “Come on man. You can’t fool your old man. I saw that girl all on you. I almost thought you had enchanted her or made her drink two bottles of love potion a day. Though I can’t blame you son. Mara is a lovely young woman.”
James’ cheeks glowed with embarrassment. “It’s not like that bro. I just wanted to be her friend. She just ended up kind ah in love with me.”

Angus held up his hands. “Okay. Okay. I won’t say anything more about it.”
James stared at Angus. “I do like her. I love Mara a lot. She’s my best friend. I was just afraid of introducing her to you and Mom because-”

Angus nodded turning serious. “I know son. I know. It won’t be easy for her being connected to our family.”

SIGMA: THE MARK Episode 1 PART 2

transcript from the Sigma podcast

3, 2, 1,

And we are live. Let’s get it.. Welcome to the inauguration of the Sigma. The hottest podcast on the cyberspace podcast scene.

This is your boy Dj Point 3 and the man himself Owen “The Fixer” Sigma. Back by popular demand.

How’s it going Big Dogg? You been lying low for a bit now sense the ice heads have invaded the blessed dream realm.

Sigma: Well business matters rather kept me in the back trying to make some negotiations with the ice king himself and his people.

Point 3: ohh. Look at you trying to be all diplomatic and shit. How did the business go Big Dogg?

Sigma: It went to hell of course. But, I managed to distract the enemy long enough for me to arrange things to my liking but luckily enough my student was able to subdue the enemy from harming me and we got away.

Point 3: Hot damn! You a big roller. Big Dogg. Anyway, in our last conversation you were getting in to the nitty gritty of how you got into the underground business. By the way what was your first successful business and your first failure.

Sigma: The answer to the first question was my short time as a runner so I quickly had to adjust on the fly to advance to my more liable career of solo sniper. It happened on the day my father put me on the rite of hell. So I was a busy man.

Point 3: Oh do go on Big Dogg.

Sigma: Well. I was stripped naked after being fired from my corporate job for not disclosing I was of Nomad status at the time. My former pack revealed this to them. I was stripped and sent out. I headed for the red District immediately searching for any kind of work after winning clothes from a street fight and money I searched for my first client that needed a run done.

I happened on to a corpo that was jammed up and in need of someone to get word to his father to come get him. I was given a promise note of payment. I took the job nearly losing my hand doing the event but I succeeded in the job though I paid a price. The note of payment was resended and I was given a dead detapad and nothing else. I made the mistake of arguing the point and was beaten by his family’s security team until I apologized and accepted the payment with the added damage to my pride and loss of some ability right hand. I learned two lessons that day. Executives considered the underground sector to be criminals not worthy of the their due payment and two I could not remain at the bottom.

Point 3: Damn. Don’t that beat all. How did you adjust on fly after that?

Sigma: I learned very quickly how to fix the Detapad and luckily there was some useful information still on the Detapad I could use to trade for a sniper rifle and credits. I bidden my time after that waiting until the right contract came up for my first client. An authority wanted dead or alive poster came up for my former client. I made my first million from that authority contract and took on several others for the authorities but the skills I gained from Detapad repair helped me to make even more in credits and Fixing situations to my clients pleasure.

Point 3: I think that is a good place to hang it up for the day. I see you have a call to take and I got ice heads to take out. Mother Wolf Peaches broadcasted out the call out the other day and it’s open season on the invaders. I’ll see you, when I see Peace.

I felt someone enter my private apartment. I eased out of Amber’s arms toward the edge of the bed. Amber made the sound of a moan reaching for me to pull me back into her arms.

“Where are you going?” She said in a husky half awake voice.

The covers slipped away from her body lovely full ample breasts. I leaned over kissing her head. “I won’t be long dear. I have to go check on something. Stay here until my return.” I told her calmly.

Amber leaned up kissing my chin and yawned. “Come back to me.” She said and laid back down falling asleep instantly.

I slipped on my trousers at same reaching for service revolver. I headed for the door slipping out of my bedroom and into the hallway. I locked the door.. I heard nothing but I felt someone or something here.

I listened intently. I heard it breathing. Something wet dripped down onto to my revolver causing it to burn. I fired a shoot off missing the body.

I heard a scream.

IT fell onto me making a snarling and biting at my neck. I grabbed IT’s neck and squeezed. IT screamed.

“My Lord. MY LORD!!” Amber yelled trying to break out of my bedroom.

“Damn it! Stay in the room. Do not leave.” I ordered her and kneed IT in the dick.

IT screamed louder. I wrestled on top of the creature’s body and started pounding IT in the face while holding onto IT’s neck.

The creature’s body clawed at my trousers and legs. IT was struggling and didn’t last long until I finished it off.

I got to my feet slowly bleeding from my legs and chest. Damnation. I had more scars. Slowly I realized Amber was sobbing.

I quickly unlocked the door and it was flung inward. Amber was naked and crying and ran into my arms. I sighed and tried to lift her out of my arms.

“I’m bleeding and have open wounds. I need to take a bath.” I said.

“I don’t care.” Amber softly. “I’m immune to most posions anyway.” She said and then came out of my arms and led me to the bathroom.

Amber turned on the water in the tub and started filling the tub with water. She finally looked at me and held out her hand to me.

I sighed and rose up taking her in my arms and sat down in the tub. I picked up a wash rag and soap. I started washing myself first then her.

We sat in silence for several minutes. Amber grabbed my wrist. “Who summoned that thing that attacked you?”

“I don’t know. I expect it is a warlock from Fair Gale or a visitor from the devil’s eye.” I said.

“Why attack you? Are you associated with the new king of Drakeacape?”

“Yes.” I said plainly.

I leaned down inhaling her scent. I didn’t smell any magic on her still. I wondered if she was using me.

Amber leaned back against me. “You are a warrior of Drakescape.”

“Yes. I had my time in the service to my country. It also helped me to earn my way through university.” I paused as body began to glow. “What are you doing?”

“I told you I am immune to most poisons. My body can heal wounds. It is a useless power in the magical arts ranks but this is all I can give you. You had to earn your way in the world?”

I hugged her waist. “It is my people’s way. We grow stronger by pushing our minds and bodies to the limit and surviving in challenging situations to find our limits and far we can push past them. Foxx was the same way in his rise to power.”

Amber sighed as I laid kisses on her neck and cheek. “Why did he fall then?”

“Foxx got lazy and greedy for easy wins.” I said simple. “He was beaten because he never expected he could lose anymore.”

“How did you know?” Amber asked.

Hmm. “Like you said. I am a warrior. I am never at ease entirely.  I can’t be. I was taught to always be ready.”

“Your teacher most have been a great teacher.” She said.

I grunted. Foxx had been a great teacher but a piss poor leader and traitor in his final years alive before I killed him.

“How did you become a chief administrator?” Amber asked as she took a hold of my bent arm.

I guided her down the street toward my old apartment building that was still two blocks from true cave residence. I wondered when I would be able to take her to my real residence. I would give it a little more time I decided.

“Hmm. Interestingly enough I was hired for the position after I finished my studies abound in my late twenties. I applied for the position when I return back after getting my doctorate in medicine and criminal justice in Iron born.  I was still had the position when His majesty Foxx Drakescape was around before the war. When did you first arrive here?”

Amber stared at me with wide eyes. “You’ve been to the sky kingdom? What was it like? Do the people there actually have wings?”

I smiled seeing the youthful delight and interest in her eyes and the strange notion she had of bird people. He had an idea who she got the idea from. “So you traveled here on Jameson’s floating yakt?”

Amber blinked in surprise. “You know of Lord Jameson the explorer?”

I laughed softly and nodded. “Yes. He studied with me at the top university in Iron Born though he lost interest quickly enough in our second year and took to being quite the wander of the skies.”

Amber grinned at me. “Tell me my Lord what are the Iron Born winked people like. Do they had rainbow winks as Jameson told me about? What was living in Iron Born like?”

I kept back laughter at her Senser look of interests and silly dreams in her eyes. “It was…educational and a big impact on me growing into the man I am today.  But, no. The people there aren’t bird people. They use modern technology to propell themselves through great landscapes across the known seven kingdoms. They are for the most part humans. Though that will change in the course of a few more centuries. When did you arrive here my dear? Are you on vacation?”

Amber looked like she wanted to ask more about Iron Born but stopped herself. “I came here on holiday two weeks ago. I saw your add in the post. I was interested in the position and honestly I wanted to meet you.”

I raised an eye brow. “Me? Really. I wonder why?”

“You are one of the last Dracoians still in the city responsible for defeating the ancient Dracoian king.”

I rolled my eyes. “Ancient king? Foxx was only sixty-six years old when he was defeated by the allied forces of the guardsmen.”

Amber stared at me silently. “In human years he was rumored to be six hundred years old.”

I shrugged. “True enough for humans but Dracoians and half/drakes aren’t human. By Drakescape standards he wasn’t really that old at all. Have you ever been married before today?”

Amber frowned at me. “No. I haven’t and we haven’t married yet let alone had a grand wedding or registered our marriage with town records or elders here and aboard in Fair Gale.”

I shook my head. “In that you would be wrong my dear. The rules here are much more similar. So you are a virgin?” I said.

Amber’s cheeks turned a lovely pink warm glow as she glared at me. “I am Lady my lord….though I am a much old…” Amber closed her mouth looking away. I caught what she had been about to say.

Hmm. So she is much older then said she was. I kept walking. Amber said nothing but she wrapped both her arms around my forearm holding on to me tightly. “Amber. You must understand something about my people or more to the point myself. I am a very direct man and harsh when I am crossed. Once you agreed to be mean that is the end of it for me. However, if you are not inclined to stay by my side then you may leave as you please. I will not chase after you.”

“When are we to married?” She asked.

“We already are.” I told her. “Once you took hold of my arm and allowed me to lead you. To my people are to the law the deed is done. It is the drakescape way.”

Amber was frowning and looked at young paper boy and singled to him to come. He came over in a hurry. “Yes Ma’mum. What can I do for you?”

The boy bowed to me. I fished out a few crowns and gave him some for a paper. The boy handed me a paper.

Amber focused on the boy. “Boy. Is it the way here now that gentlemen marry by simple choosing a lady and walking with her?”

The boy nodded without looking at me. “Yes, Ma’mum. That is the way of. It’s a new law new drakescape made regarding men and females. It was passed quite recently indeed.” He said nodding his head and then he took off running seeing another man waving to him for a paper.

I started walking off leading her away. Amber still looked uncertain. “Do you wish to ask around more?”

“Yes. I do.” Amber said quickly. “If you don’t mind Sir. My Lord.” She said softly.

I shook my head. “I don’t mind at all dear.”

The next random meetings with my people all went the same. No one said a word otherwise to the new special license I had just crafted out of thin air. But, really what would they had said. It was the truth. Drakescape didn’t give a tuss about marriage licenses. Mating was the same as it always been sense the beginning.

We finally made it to my apartment building. I turned to Amber opening the door and holding it up for her. “Are you ready?”

Amber stared at me. “My Lord. I would like a wedding. A public wedding. This Saturday.”

I raised an eye brow. “I’m fine with that arrangement. There is no reason to be nervous. I will do what I can to make you at ease.” I said.

Chapter 1

Under the advise of Marshall, Solly was set down for an interview in my office while a Messenger was dispatched for Drakescape Library. An ancient library where the spellwords practiced sword craft and spent hours reading from large books all day.

Marshall and I listened to Solly’s account of how he “discovered” the girl on street as he was beginning his beat for the night. He thought it was a unusual event and wanted me to look at the girl…whom he thought was dead at the time because he knew of my fascination with strange mystery cases.

I studied Solly in silence as he finished his story about how he found the body and knew one thing for certain…he couldn’t lie to save his own ass from being fired or hung. Solly was a simple man with a reliable temperament and honest heart and mind. So there had to be one other explanation.

“Solly…are you drunk…again on duty?” I asked making sure not to add any emotion whether anger or annoyance to my voice.

Solly went stark white pale though at the accusation and looked like he might cry. “A kin’na tells you Doc. I was just beginning my beat for the night when I found her just laying on the street with the moon light shinning on her. You can’ta believe I would behold’en to be such an ass. I know ya feelings on drinking on the king’s time. I ain’t ta do it.”

Marshal and I flinched back away from him instantly.

Solly looked at us in shock. “What?!”

“You never said anything about Moonlight shinning on her.” Marshall said in a mild growing alarming voice.

Solly frowned opened his mouth and then put a hand to his mouth and stared at me in shock. “Shit! Great Draco’s balls does that mean?!” He spoke the word like a curse.

I nodded slapping the table with the palm of my hand. “Hell and damnation. The moonlight shined on her before you passed her. Didn’t it? I told you a hundred times you damned fool to run away from their strange dirty tricks. You found a pretty naked female on the road and you just thought to merrily bring her to the morgue for me to see. Don’t you know what this means?”

Solly shook his head. “I kin’na betray you Doc. I’m loyal.”

“I know that you damned fool. You’ve been enchanted by the pagan fairies. The damned fairies are setting their sights to invade our town.”

Solly’s eyes rolled into the back of his head and he promptly slid from his chair and passed out on the floor at our feet. I looked at Marshall who was looking down at his cup cold coffee.

I cleared my throat. “I apologize for my dramatics. I have frieghtened our friend Solly.”

Marshall shook his head. “Nothing to be sorry about Doc. We’ve gotten lazy. What can we expect?”

I shook my head. “I don’t know yet. We have to get the girl awake and then figure out how to get her out of here. No telling though. This might simple be a kidnapping gone wrong. If it is then it will be a simple problem to solve. I might be wrong. First time for everything.”

Marshall glared at me.. “Who are you trying to fool? What kind of power could we be up against?”

“I don’t know. The late King didn’t leave much detail on fairy enemies in his diaries. Only one personal mention of some fairy spinster obsessed with becoming the next queen of Drakescape. But, he did give detail entries on Dracoian warlords using faries as a means of Distraction for a challenge and conquer gambit.”

Marshall stared at me. “What if the current king wasn’t able to win a conquest match? Would the town be given to the challenger by default?”

I shrugged but I couldn’t help a grin of satisfaction. “Good thing we have no current king or ruler then. His Majesty Draco Dracoian Foxx was the last and only ruler of drakescape we have no need for such now. No king to defeat no city state to conquar.”

Marshall sighed eying me with a level stare not many would dare to do in current times. “We have to have some type of leadership here sense we ran off the Dracos in the war and Draco is…departed. I thought you said you would take care of that matter Doc.”

I was beginning to get annoyed myself because I had forgotten that I had told him I would handle the matter. “The laws here are few and simple enough. To keep the public peace and the guardsmen honest. Leadership flows from the guardsmen. Our chief leader being Captain Hawks, your second then Solly and myself.” I said thinking on my feet and trying at the same keep the task of leadership pushed as far away from myself as I could manage it.

Marshall smiled. “Neither Hawk or myself are interested in government bullshit. So you want to leave it to chance that good old Solly is up to the task of Supreme leader of Drakescape when or if a conflict arises?”

I looked down at Solly who was spread out on the floor in a dead faint.. I sighed. “I concede to your point. Perhaps we can arrange a city committee of resident business owners and professionals tradesmen to be privileged in city state and immigration matters on a short term agreement of course.”

Marshall nodded his head. “That seems reasonable enough. You plan on leading this committee?”

I stiffened at the notion and hopeful note in his voice. “Absolutely not. I have my work here to keep my mind busy and provide me my bread and butter. I have no such needs of a role. You however have a-“

“-But you are a professional, Doc. The best kind in the city and you were a guardsmen. We would need a guardsmen in the committee to speak for us at least on a part time basis.” Marshall countered with a grin. I was cornered again.

“Damnation, fine.
I’ll get it set up by the end of my shift.. Where the bloody hell are those damned librarians.” I asked.

Marshall looked at his pocket time piece. “I sent a scout out to the library to fetch em a little over thirty minutes ago. They should be around any time now. Not much of a walk from the library to city guards station and walk down to the morgue. But, I expect they’re researching a bit a solution for the problem.” He paused a few seconds in thought.

“Doc?!” Marshall said looking around my office.

I frowned at his tone and study of my office. “Yes?”

Marshall smiled. “If I chipped in a coin or two too hire a chit to organize your office and help you with setting up the committee a bit. You’d be okay with it? Just for my peace of mind that you won’t be over run with everything.”

I grimanced shaking my head. “No. I’ll hire an assistant out on my own coin. I can manage it if you think I need it done. I’ll see to it but that is all.”

First time

Prologue

My name is Arnold Blair. Chief medical examiner and administrator of Drakeacape city guards. My job is a simple one. I provide details and advice here and there to law inforcement in the city.

The morgue was my office and I was busy with a new subject.

I was leaning over a poor dead boy giving off details for a guardsman to record. While a silent Marshall Irons waited to the side watching and listening. He was working a manhunt case and needed the details.

“Oya. Mr. Examiner. I got a pretty one for you to look at. Strange case.” Solly Drakewood. A guardsmen said as he walked into the morgue with a female dead body over his shoulder.

I frowned at the body. The guardsman put her on a empty table.

I studied the body giving her a quick glance. I made no move to touch her. She was naked. I estimated her age around 18-25. Blond human. Mortal.

I checked her body for wounds. None. Signs of injection of posion. None. I reached for her chin and gentle pulled her mouth open. I saw no signs of posion. I smelled nothing on her breath. She was breathing. Strange. I noticed her body was warm. I took her hand and found pink dust on her fingers.

Fucking fairy dust. Damnation. Alive. But not alive. Asleep but not asleep.

I backed up as I realized what this was. I had two questions though with two answers. “Where did you find this girl?”

“I found the body on 5th divided and lane. Why?”

“Shit. Cover her up already.”

I looked over at Irons to see him covering his gaze. Oh shit. I filed that charecter trait in my mind for later.

“What is it? What do you see?”

“Some fucker spelled the girl. Cover her up.” Iron said uneasy now.

“Doc? What the fuck is going on?” Solly said in that tone that told me he was to seconds from running.

I quickly covered her with my apren. “Solly. Go get me a fucking spellsword from the city library and be quick about it. We’ve got a serious problem here. This girl isn’t dead. She’s a victim of magical kidnapping.”
