Does writer’s block really exist?
Don’t you wonder? Where does that moment come from when you’re at the computer screen staring at your a blank screen or empty page. Sometimes it comes from a busy mind over taxed with to many worries of the world and life.
Life, money, bills, nagging wife and nagging boss. The list goes on and on. All distractions really. So how do you focus? Think of yourself on a boat sitting on the water in storm raging all around you. You’ve got a determination to get to a destination but the storm, the storm is raging for your attention.
What you should be doing is looking for your map. Map? What about the storm raging all around you. Yeah! Forget about the storm for a bit. Get your map (Outline) and compass (notes) out from your tool box and scan for your location. Are you in the middle, beginning or nearing the end of your story. Find out where you are and in your mind track (Start writing) a course forward to where you need to be and the end game of your journey. The storm may keep raging but the map will focus you mind on forward movement.
Be confident and keep working.
Outlines are great maps for writers that find a need to keep you focused. Whether it’s a written outline or a mental act of knowing where you are in the writing of story and trusting yourself to make the steps or chart the course to get where you need to be.
