Painting a world in the mind.

This is my most difficult skill to learn at present the ability to paint thr world in the mind of the reader. Characters matter to me and motivation of why people do things I find rich in art.

Here’s my attempt:

Smoke Wells felt the warmth of the sun on his face as he came to wakefulness on soft ground under his body. He dug his rough hand in the sand under him before fresh water cold rushed up splash over him.

Smoke opened his eyes lids slowly with painful effort and then looked up at the blue grey sky above. He groaned and worked to force his body to come to roll up to a sitting position on the sand.

He stared around him wondering at the palm trees and forest around him. He wondered where he was and how he got here.

He looked down at his torn trousers and wrapped up white shirt and wondered. He looked down at the long violent scars on his chest. He moved his mouth kicking his lips tasting dry blood and something else on his mouth and tongue.

“Welcome Smoke.”

Smoke looked around for the voice but he couldn’t find the owner. He knew some how though that the owner of the voice was watching him closely. Slowly he forced and worked himself to his bare feet. He ran a shakey hand through his dark wavy hair and pondered his next move before he saw a white light house on hip in the distance.

…..

We shall leave it right there.

Shifting gears…

Yo!

Hmm. I got an idea.

I was working on a story for a new fantasy but man oh man. I have shift gears.

  1. The story was paused and I couldn’t see a direction for it.
  2. I didn’t really plan it out like I’m going to do now.

I had the outline going and chapter numbers but I have to shift gears slightly. I want to tell four novella about self-sacrifice and the importance of family.

I can work within a short format dynamic. I just have to plan it out. It’s going to be fun.

I think I found my inspiration for my next story. It’s amazing.

Alright. I am checking out the Devil May Cry show first episodes and just vibing with the feel of the show. It’s got the tone I like and right about action and humor in the right places.

The only thing I don’t like about the show is the theme song to the show. I like the the band and the song but when I think of gothic horror action of Devil May Cry. I hear in my head

Heavy Metal.

Straight up. Nothing else should go with this type of show but metal. Anyway, the feel of show and words made me think. I write something like this. Then I thought no. I have written something like this but I didn’t have it be just straight up demon slayer fiction.

I already built the fictional world for the type of book I want to write. This time though. I want to experiment with planning it out to detail explaining to the reader what the plot is and the direction of the story from the jump. I want this story to feel like a straight up simple Devil May Cry story.

One component though for this story will be research. I am going to do some reading of Robert E. Howard. I love his style of storytelling. Detailed monsters and simple fantasy action world. Love it. That’s where I want to get to because when I do.

I’m going to take all that I have learned from this book and put it into Cyberpunk again.
