Systems of learning: Auditory learning

Hello,

Fellow writers and scholars of the written word. I greet you with warm affection and a heart filled with a appreciation for your following and fellowship.

Are you listening to my words in your head?

Or

Are you a classical western learner who takes in knowledge by words alone.

For context sake:

Auditory learning is a learning style in which a person learns through listening. An auditory learner depends on listening and speaking as a main way of learning. – Google

I wasn’t taught that bit of knowledge in public school on my short span of time I spent in it. Neither was I graced with that bit in college even though that’s how I’ve always ever been successfully in the system learning anything.

This is something I knew about myself that when I’m reading I’m usually hearing the words in my head or when I’m studying something I’m usually repeating the information back to myself in my own voice or my internal voice to make the information more internalized to my thoughts.

Now is listening reading?

Not really. To read

Reading is the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning. It is a form of language processing. – Wikipedia

On average I am a slow reader depending on whether the subject or story peeks my interest. On subjects like music, fiction, science fantasy, science fiction, action adventure etc. In short I’ve often read for fun and not so much to learn anything.

At an above average rate I can listen to several hours of content and take in more information more easily.

I’m not bragging because I haven’t determined if is or is not good method to be a person who learns naturally from reading or one who learns best from listening and hands on approach. The smartest and brightest stars of our generation and previous ones have all had common threads of being prolific readers. Thomas Sowell, Vox Day, Robert Frost, Ray Bradbury etc.

In any case it’s the way I learn. It’s the way I write. I know the mother tongue of English by the sound of her song and flow of a sentence if it can be spoken aloud with a clear ring to it.

Frost’s poetry vs Hemingway’s honesty

Hello,

Fellow writers and lover’s of the written word. I bring you glad greetings and brotherly affection.

I love poetry but poetry has a way of blurring the truth in metaphors and imagery. It’s a common thread in my writing sometimes. weaving words together to create art is fun for me but I want to be a truth speaker and honest about and feelings.

In my early years of learning the craft of writing, I learned from the classic writers, Jane Austen, Robert Heinlein, Robert Frost and Ernest Hemingway.

Frost, I read a lot of his poetry when I was younger and into today. The Road not Taken. Everybody that likes to read has heard of that one. But, what I enjoyed about his mastery was his ability to craft and convey meaning into the simple aspects about life and it’s ups and downs and wonder of nature and the beauty of choice metaphors.

Hemingway, the modern classic writer. I read because his writing was so clean, neat and clear cut. No flash. No poetic stream of words. You can read any of his books and they are readable in 21 first century today.

Out of these two giants. I love Frost’s gift of simplistic poetry but Hemingway’s honesty wants me to be work harder at being more clear and well honest.

side note: The two things I love about Hemingway’s writings is his clear narrative stories about how people are and his use of clear cut sentences.

What I’ve been reading: Jack Forge Fleet Marine series “Action adventure science fiction”

Hello,

Fellow writers and lover’s of the written word. I hope you fair well in your writing projects throughout this year.

I’ve been reading the Jack Forge Fleet Marine series on Amazon. I bought the box set for a nice price of $0.99. You get a complete series of nine books all in one package with a nice preview of another series to come from the author.

I’ve read about two books so far and I’m currently on book 3 in the series so far I’m enjoying the series. It was a pleasant surprise buy for me knowing nothing about the author or series. I’m completely hocked though in the world and character of Jack Forge and the people in his world.

Short summary: Deep into the future humanity is at war with Alien bugs and the military is short of recruits. Jack Forge flunks out of university and is drafted into the Fleet Marines.

It has that scent of Starship troopers but without all the political preaching and class room time on the meaning of war. It’s all action with a taste of science fiction in the mix.

The character of Jack Forge…hm.

Jack Forge isn’t a alpha character type. He falls into two types of males. The Sigma type/ Delta type. In short, Jack is both the smart outsider and the dependable man called upon to get the job done at times but is dominant Sigma type. Here’s a quick reference: alpha game

I’ve only read two books in the series but I know I’ll be reading all of them easily. The books are parts of one whole story. The rise of Jack Forge’s position and how he is “forged” by his experiences and enemy. My suggestion is that you have to read them all together because they all fit as a long novel however, each part (book) is a complete fun story.

The tragic comedy of modern times

Hello,

Fellow writers and lover’s of the written word. I greet you with rich affection and warm regards.

Oh! What times we live in. Times of political storms and mass hypnosis televised to our brains and drug induced through our food and we beg, and we cry out for more.

My brain can’t take it some times so I laugh and so I write. Please forgive my wondering thoughts but on this side of the western hemisphere of the spinning goble I can’t sleep and not from lack of trying. My thoughts keep racing and I can’t seem to find the finish line to them.

It’s been one of those weeks. The tragic elements of family secrets being revealed have split my head in two. I’m left wondering about the bonds of true loyalty in the era I live in and moral compass-less people I seem to be connected to maybe I’m the crazy one for believing in the normal bonds of brotherly love for one another.

No. I’m not crazy I’m just a poor idiot born in a time of insanity and weirdness. I was supposed to be asleep but then I stopped watching 21st century televised programing.

I feel like I’m turning into a old timer. I’m in love with radio show dramas

Hello,

Lovers of the written words and scholars of various subjects.

I’ve got a confession to tell you. A small secret if you will that I just realized or I came to admit to myself yesterday. I don’t think it’s a problem it’s a thing I enjoy for God knows what reason.

I was in my room reading a book (playing video games) and I got bored. So I just stopped reading (playing video games) and got on my computer because I wanted to hear something funny. So I went to my download folder looked through it for a few seconds until I found a MP3 file of my favorite slap stick comedy fifth ave girl radio broadcast show.

Side note: I was in heaven. I remember seeing the movie on TCM a decade a go by accident one night and I was in love with the catchy language and dueling dialog scenes. Well I am a sucker for words.

Anyway, it got me in a good mood. Certain radio dramas tend to do that for me so I popped in a CD of a radio drama series I had just gotten from the library. The original remastered Star Wars trilogy radio drama.

I know what you’re thinking. “Another Stars Wars nerd.” You are only half right. I’m over Star Wars. What killed it for me? The scene with Luke Skywalker drinking blue milk right from utter of alien cow he just milked murdered the movies for me. However, I love radio dramas. I like the original star wars movies. So, I got it.

My God. Pure gold. Theater for the mind and delight for the innocent child I once was a long time a go in a much more sane world. I wish I had been introduced to this version. The writing, The acting the sounds. It’s good and yes I am seriously crazy about words.

What type of writer are you?

Hello, Lover’s of the written word and scholars of the various schools of thought and subjects. Happy New Year and salutations for the reader of this post and blessing on your next creative adventure.
I’m nearly close to finishing the last book in the Life Of Prince series and I’m glad of it. Why? I have backlog of projects I have to finish and get started for my long term goals as a writer. I still have to do another update on my second book before I bring it to paperback but it’ll get done this year of that I am sure. The process was challenging last but the discoveries about myself and my writing evolution was enlightening to say the least. I discovered I had a strange habit of creating comedy and poetic sentences in situations to brake the tension. I didn’t set out to make jokes or intentionally create comedy in a situation that would some times not garner a comedic view in stories. It happened and read better on the second reading and I laughed out loud. It wasn’t forced or ego driven. It was pleasant surprise. Back history: I started writing habitually at a very young age. My ambitions at the time were simple to be a poet and a traveler. I liked short form pose and sentences that packed meaning and power of encouragement. Then, I went to college as was told a poet could not make much in the way of money so I tried my hand at short stories then novels. (I dread novel writing but love reading good novels) Now, I find myself writing comedy, and poetic pose mixed in a bowl of contemporary fables. In my heart I’m still a poet that dreams in stories and records them with comedic twist to offset the humdrum of the normal woes and difficulties of life. L. M. Parker.
